The Quiet Flow of Life

An apple tree doesn't think, and yet the most beautiful apples grow on its branches. If an apple tree could think, it might look around and have these thoughts:
“I don’t like standing next to those trees. They look better than I do. Why aren’t my apples as red as many of the others’? Why is the wind blowing so hard right here by me? How on earth is this going to work out?”
Eventually, the tree might wither. Not because of the forces of nature, but because it was trapped and weakened by its own thoughts. But the apple tree doesn’t think—it just lives. It is nourished by the sun, the rain, and the soil beneath it, without trying to control anything.
The apple tree blooms because it is connected to the natural flow of life. In the same way, we, too, can bloom when we understand that it is not the world around us that shapes our experience.
The creative force behind the idea
The tree would suffer if it were capable of worrying and comparing itself to others. And we humans suffer when we believe that our thoughts are reality. But thoughts are like waves on the ocean—they come and go and are merely temporary forms created by the deeper life force that drives everything.
Individual thoughts do not create our reality. It arises from our ability to think—the creative flow that constantly manifests itself in new forms. When we realize that we live through this creative process but are not bound by the content of our thoughts, we can stop the struggle and discover the peace that dwells within us.
We can let thoughts come and go without defining ourselves by them. Just as the apple tree does not try to control the sun or the rain, we do not need to control our thoughts or feelings. Like the weather, they are fleeting.
The Light of Consciousness
Consciousness is the light that illuminates our thoughts and makes them visible to us. It enables us to experience joy, sorrow, calm, and restlessness—not so that we can judge our experiences as good or bad, but to reveal to us the full spectrum of experience in the present moment. Just as light brings a landscape into view, consciousness allows us to see and feel everything that thought creates.
When we realize that consciousness is neutral and does not take sides, we can take a step back and watch our thoughts pass by like clouds in the sky—without letting ourselves get carried away. We can rest in our being, just like the apple tree that stands where it stands, without any thoughts about how it, the wind, or the weather ought to be.
The Natural Flow of Life Force
The apple tree draws freely from the life force, and in the same way, the life force nourishes and sustains us. This invisible current makes us breathe, keeps our hearts beating, and makes life possible. We don’t need to understand or control it—we are part of it.
When we let go of the need to control our experiences and allow the life force to do its work, we discover that we have free access to peace and joy. These qualities are not something we have to create, but something we recognize within ourselves when we stop fighting against life as it unfolds here and now.
Ask yourself: What fills my mind? What stories do I tell myself about the world and myself? Is it really up to me to decide how everything should be? Did I create the world?
No, we wake up every day as guests in this world. Our task is not to control life, but to be part of its flow—just as the trees, flowers, and animals are.
What happens if we live like nature does—without resistance and with trust in life? Perhaps we’ll discover that life is much easier than we thought.
When we realize that our experience is created from within, we can find peace and acceptance. We can let go of our inner dialogue and feel the peace that has always been there—right behind our thoughts.
Practice simply being. Peaceful and relaxed—like an apple tree that doesn’t resist, but grows contentedly where it has been planted.
